An Associate is an entry-level position for regional, functional or sector practices. Associates support practice leads and other senior staff with scheduling, team operations, editing and archiving client deliverables, and other duties that support the team’s client service and internal functioning. This job exposes the employee to the details of ASG business and client work, allowing them to begin to develop geopolitical, regional, and sectoral/industry expertise. Once adept at supporting the smooth operations of the practice, associates collaborate with senior associates and others to develop and/or edit written products (e.g., country reports, stakeholder maps, market analyses), following ASG's best practices.  

This position is in the East Asia Pacific practice, which supports client needs in ASEAN member countries as well as Australia, Japan, Korea, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.  This position is based in Washington D.C.

Responsibilities

Administrative Support:  Supports the practice lead and other senior staff with scheduling, team operations and other duties as needed; and engages with clients in a support role, as requested. This may include:
  • Manages administrative functions and tasks of the practice, arranging senior team members’ schedules, appointments, meetings, and travel arrangements.
  • Prepares and edits correspondence, communications, presentations, and other documents.
  • Records, transcribes, and distributes meeting minutes.
  • Supports communications with clients and members of the ASG Advisory network.
  • Periodically evaluates team operations, promoting increased efficiencies, including the adoption of technology wherever possible.
  • Coordinates with team members as well as members of other ASG practices as needed to support workflow.
Client Service and Thought Leadership:  Supports the practice lead and other senior staff with drafting and editing client deliverables, white papers, and other products as needed. This may include:
  • Works to develop geopolitical, regional, functional or sector/industry expertise by engaging other members of their practice and participating in client engagements as needed.
  • Begins to learn ASG best practices in research and product delivery, including the use of ASG proprietary knowledge and diverse sources of public information, and begins to develop the ability to analyze – and work with senior staff to make judgments about – competing versions of events or asymmetrical understanding of crucial factors.
Business Development:  Supports the practice lead and other senior staff with business development, as needed. This may include:
  • Help identify ways to approach business development or enhance client profitability; associates are not expected to directly lead or produce revenue.
  • Function as the “keeper” of practice’s business development pipeline in the Scoro customer relationship management platform.
  • Contribute to the production of new business development memos, and proposals and proposals for prospective clients.
  • Add, update, and maintain new or existing accounts and opportunities for your team.
  • Add, update, and maintain contacts for your team; create distribution/mailing lists.
  • Track events and convening’s your team has hosted or attended through Salesforce campaigns.
Perform other duties assigned at the discretion of management.

Qualifications
  • Zero to three years of relevant prior work experience.
  • BA/BS in political science, international relations, public policy or business administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience, with a Master’s in related field a plus.
  • Highly proficient in PowerPoint and other MS Office tools.
  • Fluency in the language, or languages, used in the applicable region is a plus (Japanese, Korean, Indonesian, Thai or Vietnamese preferred).
  • Experience or studies in relevant countries.
